This is a California State Historic Landmark. It was the tenth of the 21 Franciscan missions. Though it was founded in 1786, it still functions as a church for many locals. Among other reasons to visit is that you can see a panoramic view of the city from the mission's steps. It is also a remarkable example of how the city evolved, from Chumash Indian land to Spanish land to a thriving American city.
